Chile has a good infrastructure compared to many of the neighboring countries. Many large projects are in process such as new jails and hospitals, but the following are a few of the even larger one:
Airport Expansions and Upgrades
Many airport expansion projects are underway but the Santiago International Airport is currently receiving the most investment and development. The project is worth USD $716 million. The upgrades and new wings will allow for up to 50 million passengers yearly by 2045.
Port Expansions and Upgrades
Several of Chile’s most important ports are expanding and receiving upgrades. One of the largest port expansions is at the port of San Antonio. The $230 million project will provide the port with a new terminal including a 700 meter docking area. The port of San Antonio is the freight lifeline to Santiago as it is the primary port and freight hub to the capital.
The Americo Vespucio Oriente Expressway, a $900 million project, will address the growing traffic congestion around Santiago. The highway will be underground with 9.3 kilometers of tunnels that will increase road capacity from 3,000 cars per hour to 8,000. The date of completion will be 2021.
